New Spec-taculars!

After a long and hard fought deliberation, not to mention search on eBay, Etsy and the web in general, I finally have a pair of new vintage goggles that I am happy with!

Followers on twitter and facebook may have already seen these -  coming to you live from The Beards smart phone-fandangle -  as our home comp is still up a certain creek with no hope of a paddle until after payday. And I could not help but play around with the effects on said phone-fandangle.

Now -  I know that they are 1950's glasses, which is a deviation from my usual 40's inspired look -  but I am OK with blurred lines. Plus, the regular, round rimmed specs of the era do not suit my face at all. Apparently, my face shape should be able to suit any glasses. This is a lie. So I avoid them.

I nabbed these beauties from Collectable Spectacle on Etsy after a fairly long and weary stroll through the plethora of vintage eye wear on there. I only realised you could search under "Cat's Eye" too late. Do not make my mistake. You will go cross eyed looking through as many pages as I did (over 100).

I took them to SpecSavers and had a quick chat about them. I already had my recent prescription with them and they had the lenses on stock, so we were good to go. I went for the cheap option of £39 for re glazing with no anti glare. I am an idiot and shall be returning to pay the extra for this.

They have taken a bit of getting used to as they are heavier, a little tighter and further away from my eyes than my regular ones -  so I am going to wear them on and off to get used to them.

But boy, oh BOY are they purty!!! Me loves 'em!

  2. Hello, and snap, I have just bought a pair on Etsy from a different seller though. For any other readers, you can search for cats eye glasses/frames and also wing tip. Mine were listed as wing tip. I have them in the optician just now having my prescription put in, I am SO excited.

  10. They are a great choice and do look lovely on you. don't worry about those vintage style period correct people if you love it and it looks good on you then who cares. Besides I have seen women from the 40's in catseyes styles and while they were not common they were defently stylish!!!

  11. They are so cute! They look amazing. I wish I could do a vintage frame but my prescription is too strong. I settle for high end vintage inspired frames instead.

  15. Love em. I call artistic glasses 'beakers' (as in, a lovely bright plastic versions of glasses pun). You look like a sexy secretary, very saucy.

  16. My aunt used to wear these. They look great on you but dreadful on me. As did the round, purple, hippy sunglasses I craved in my twenties, boy, was I disappointed!

  20. I think I have my granny's old 'spectaculars' (fab name!) back at my parents house. I have asked my mum to unearth them from the 'stuff drawer' so I can get them re-glazed for myself.

    You looks lovelys in them!

  22. They are just gorgeous!! I do know what you mean too I'm a very 50s girly but I can't wear really out there cats eyes glasses my face is too small & they look silly, so I can't wear what is really my era either!

  23. My oh my, do these glasses suit you! Who cares about them being non-40's in style...my only sunglasses I wear are 50's catseyes even though my style is generally a 40's one. They are just easier to wear than the 40's shapes!

They are delightful, so get them peepers trained into them and all will be rosy xxx

  24. Lovely! I have a load of Collectable Spectacle's items in my etsy favourites... I think my own goggulars were from Vintage Eyeglasses on there. I had them reglazed (including anti glare) by Specs By Post, £20 and three days later I was no longer blind! Huzzahs.

I like the silver, a practical choice but pretty too!
