Dress Down Friday - Part III

The on going saga of what to wear on the dreaded dress down Friday is, well, on going. This is my latest effort. Land Girl by name, trying by nature.

I feel compelled to wear jeans on DDF. I base whole outfits around them. Some are fails and shall remain unseen. But this one, I quite like. I got to wear a cardy-thing I had found at the bottom of a drawer and a head scarf I had forgotten the existence of. Win!

And to accessorise, what else but an actual original Land Girl badge? I own a couple of these, both of which I found on eBay for a nominal value (under £3!) and when I look at one, I cannot help but wonder who owned it, where she might have tilled fields, milked cows, sunned herself and suffered all the aches and pains of her work.

It may, to some, seem frivolous to wear this as a mere accessory. But, I am more than aware of it's significance. And I would rather it were worn with pride and remembrance, than in a drawer somewhere.

And so... until next DDF -  ta-ra!

  1. I like! Casual but in keeping with your fashion ethos. It's a win! I imagine the land girl in question would be nothing but happy that you wore her badge with such pride.

  4. I like it! But I'm with you on DDF, I used to dread it, I do wear jeans but rarely and I always looked slightly over dressed or like I was going on holiday - bright hawaiian shirt & cropped trousers - on my attempts! Thankfully I work from home now, and occasional jaunts into the work world require business casual which I can do ha ha!

I agree also you should wear your Land Army badge as you are not wearing it as an accessory, but with pride!

  5. I adore this look- it REALLY works well! It may be because I am a bit of a tomboy (with princess brat tendancies) but I love a bit of mid-century-jeans be it land girl, overalls or 50s cropped trews. We don't have dress-down-Friday at my work but we do Jeans for Genes and we wear jeans on trips.

Have you a tweed jacket? I sometimes do a 'to the manor born' type outfit with jeans, a cashmere-esque sweater and a tweed blazer/cap. And pearls (natch).

  6. Brilliant! I think you should turn up in full land girl khaki trews and shirt one day. I always used to use DDF as an excuse to get really dressed up. Everyone else would be in jeans and I'd pull out my flounciest 50s frock. It is essentially wear what you like day, and that is what I liked xx

I can't wear jeans anymore, just can't they don't suit me at all but I never thought of wearing it with something like this so you've inspired me to give jeans a go again.

  12. I love the way your lipstick matches the flowers on your headscarf, and I think its perfectly acceptable to wear your badge with pride - its like your own personal tribute to the efforts of the Land Girls.

  14. Lovely <3 it's great you're remembering the girl who earned it by wearing her badge and bringing it to people's attention.

My grandmother was a land girl, but we've never seen any of her pictures or badges because my evil uncle has everything and won't let my dad or me round to go through it. My other nanna was in the ATS though and we have her things, my mum takes great care of them.

  18. This outfit is cute...I particularly like the badge! I own a Womens voluntary Service badge which I too purchased from ebay for next to nothing. I too wonder it's history, and fully appreciate it's value and significance when I wear it! xx

  19. I am having the same problem...it's dress down day at the office tomorrow....I wear vintage to work every day, but when it comes to dress down day, like you, i automatically think i HAVE to wear jeans....but as i never usually wear jeans even when walking the dogs, i just don't feel right!

hmmm....you got me thinking now though....i shall have a rummage tonight and see what i can find to dress down in!

    thanks for the tips!

ps - love the land girls badge, and I dont think anyone will criticise you for wearing it. You are making other people remember, and giving it a new lease of life. I'm sure the original owner would love knowing that you are wearing it with pride!
