Yes folks. You heard it here first. I have finally had my locks chopped. It has been long overdue, granted, but I needed to get used to the idea of being without something that has been a kind of security blanket to me for so very many years. Anyone who has had muchous hair for a long time will get what I mean. The Beard doesn't get it. But he is a bloke. With no hair.
Le Barnet in it's full, uncurled glory.
So, on a recent trip up to see my family, I decided to ask my lovely Nan to have a bash. I decided against a midi cut, feeling that it would be too harsh for me to deal with straight off the bat. My Nan has always cut my hair. In fact - I have only had it cut in a salon once. So, I salute my Nan for saving me a lot of money over the years. The benefits of having an ex hairdresser in the family.
Nan was a little hesitant when I said I wanted about 5 inches off. As was my Mum. This stems from a collective memory we all share of me as an 8 year old being very insistent that I must have a bob. A memory that culminates with me in tears, my mum in shock and my Nan aghast at having ever agreed to it. As a result, she now only cuts my hair in stages. Half inch stages.
Is it possible that my bangers are even bigger sans locks? *sigh*
But. I am very pleased to be able to show you that I got what I wanted. I had to be forceful, and I may have used the following sentence.."Nan, you won't ruin my hair. No...no... you won't. This will not end with me hating you and weeping. No.. no... it won't. I promise. No no..Nan! Just cut!!" proving that I am just as insistent as I was all those years ago. The difference being that I did not cry this time round. I could not wait to get it set and curled....
Oooooh! Me likey!
Loosing 5+ inches from le locks has had a tremendous affect on the time it takes to set it and the length of time within which those curls last. It came out a lot shorter than I am used to, but it did inevitably drop. It always does. But, that's just life. I am still one tres happy girl!
Oh, how kind is that flash?
Hurrah for The Chop - and hurrah for The Nan who agreed to do it (in the end).
Now... what about that Midi....
Lovely! And yes, your bazoombas are umm...bazoombas!
ReplyDeleteWay hey, looking marvellous, Miss! It’s scary having so much cut off. Years ago I remember having my hair cut off from waist to just above the shoulders- then I went from a bob to a 1inch crop- arrrrgh scary, but then again I am mad! Which reminds me- must get my hair cut….. Tups x
ReplyDeleteYay! Well done for finally taking the plunge, it looks great. Sure you'll find the courage to go the whole hog with a midi soon ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the hair, it suits you perfectly!!

What is it about men and us getting our hair cut? Mine's in bigger denial than me that my hair just doesn't grow beyond a ceratin point! lol
ReplyDeleteIt looks really lovely. Hurrah for hairdressers in the family :-)
Your cut has worked really well and I love the last photo of it all set and curled.
ReplyDeletewell done! The hair looks fab. thank you for your blod comment.. why don't you come to the Vintage Bazaar in frome next weekend??? lizzie
ReplyDeleteOh, I know all about the cutting thing: for almost all of my 6+ yrs old life I've had between waist and almost-knee length long hair. When I cut it to shoulder length it was a huge step, the hairdresser I went to looked a bit shocked and asked several times if I was sure about it. Now it has grown back too long and next time I'll cut it even shorter. :) You look great in that hair length, especially when curled! :)
ReplyDeleteLooking gorgeous and how lucky to have a Nan that can do the chop.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looked really lovely once it was set and curled. I would love to have hair your length as it's far more versatile. I currently have a bob and find it hard getting the rollers to stay in the bottom layers of my hair, ce la vie.
ReplyDeleteI like it, looks fab! X
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks lovely in all lengths, but it is very perky when shorter. Go for the midi - it's hair, if you don't like it it will grow back. (I used to have mine bleached white and dyed pastel blue; hair will put up with plenty!)
ReplyDeleteLovely! You suit is a little shorter
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks fabulous! i love the new length.
ReplyDeleteI've seen in person that it looks fab :) x
ReplyDeleteYou look great! I went the other way, after sticking to a no-nonsense chin-length do for 15 years, I'm now experimenting with long 60s hippy locks.
ReplyDeleteOh bloomin' heck! How fab does this look? Hurrah! That was very brave of you, but I do believe it was well worth the possibility of trauma for such wonderful locks. xx
ReplyDeleteGood for you, I'd never cut my blanket off!!! :) x
ReplyDeleteYou look so lovely! x hivenn
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm thinking about chopping mine as well but I'm unsure if I'm brave enough.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I have found a hairdresser in York who specialises in vintage styles, just got to pluck up the courage to actually go now!!! X
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous. I am going in this next week for the chop myself.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments folks!
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely darling, well done for being so brave :) x
